Prefects

Grade 7 learners at Bastion Primary have the opportunity to act as learner leaders by being part of our prefect corps, under the leadership of our head boy and head girl. Learners vote to elect the prefects and in this way, learners experience the democratic process. Each class is assigned a prefect to see to the needs of that class. Bastion realises, though, that being a prefect is often a thankless task, and for this reason, the prefects are thanked by having a function which is arranged for them once per term.
Scholar Patrol
The safety of our learners is a priority and to ensure they are able to cross the road safely, Bastion has scholar patrol teams that assist our learners with crossing Jacaranda Street and navigating their way through the traffic in the drop & go in the mornings. However, the children are not simply thrown in the deep end. They are trained by the traffic department and stand under the leadership of adults in both the mornings and afternoons.

First Aid
The ability to perform first aid is a vital life skill and in 2023, Bastion Primary School began selecting senior learners to undergo first aid training to become accredited first aiders. This project is very popular among the learners and they receive the opportunity to support and assist their fellow learners when necessary. The first aid team is under the leadership of and supported by an educator.
